Massage Therapy
Massage is rubbing the soft tissues of the body, such as the muscles. Massage may be helpful in reducing tension and pain, improving blood flow, and encouraging relaxation. Massage therapists usually apply pressure with their hands, but they can also use their forearms, elbows, or feet. There are at least 80 different types of massage. Some are gentle, and some are very active and intense.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy and touch therapies have been used for thousands of years to help reduce stress, tension, and the pain they produce. By retraining the muscle and tissue to more healthy and relaxed states, blood flow is greatly improved throughout the body helping to restore improved function and rejuvenation resulting in overall improvement in health.

Although there are almost 70 different types of massage, generally a massage will involve the movement of the skin, fascia, muscles, and tendons in order to promote a relaxed sensation and promote healing effects specific areas or systems. The movement or pressure that Act Now Center's massage therapist will use depends on your comfort level and the issue that is being resolved.

UNIQUE STYLE

With over 750 hours of massage instruction as a foundation, our massage therapists go on to learn even more specific or stylized types of massage, attaining even more hours of instruction. Massage therapists focus on learning different techniques for eliciting different effects on the body depending on what the goal of therapy is. There are almost 70 different types of massage each one with it’s own repertoire of techniques that are used. Generally the therapist will develop their own style from a variety of different massage types. Each massage therapist has a unique style.

We are pleased to announce a recent addition to Act Now Hypnosis and Wellness Centers team of professionals: Michael Thompson, LMT

RELIABLE AND PROVEN RESULTS

A recent internet search revealed over 5,000 scholarly articles detailing studies that demonstrates various aspects of the benefits of massage. Studies range from the general beneficial effects of massage on cancer patients, surgery patients, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and sports injuries right down to specific metabolic testing: how much cortisol levels were lowered, serotonin and dopamine levels raised, heart rate lowered, blood pressure lowered, circulation increased.

USED THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES

We have been using massage for centuries for many ailments such as relieving headaches, sore muscle pain and to soothe a child to sleep. Massage has been used throughout history to relieve pain and promote healthful relaxation. Although massage had been written about over 4,000 years ago; Hippocrates (the Father of Medicine 4th century B.C.) first wrote about the healing benefits of therapeutic massage as a tool for the modern day physician. Hippocrates observed among other things, that massage would promote health to the area massaged, increase muscle tone, improve flexibility and mobility and aid in the removal of waste products.
